Many people must be wondering, "Which is better for families with small children, the famous Ba Na Hills or VinWonders Nam Hoi An?"

To get straight to the point, for families with small children, I overwhelmingly recommend "VinWonders Nam Hoi An"!

As Meg, an 8-year resident of Vietnam and a parent, I'll provide a thorough guide on how to enjoy VinWonders 120%, based on my actual experience exploring the park with my children this summer. This includes insider tips on buying cheaper tickets, the best time schedule to avoid the heat, and a packing list!

1. 🎡 What kind of place is VinWonders Nam Hoi An?

VinWonders Nam Hoi An is located about 25 minutes by car from Hoi An Ancient Town and about an hour from Da Nang. For family trips, travel time is an important consideration, but it's reassuring to know that it's within day-trip distance from both Da Nang and Hoi An. Operated by Vingroup, Vietnam's largest conglomerate, this vast integrated entertainment complex opened in 2018.

The sprawling 62.4-hectare (over 154-acre) site is divided into four main themed areas. When I first saw the overall map, I honestly wondered, "Can we really cover all of this in one day...?" But don't worry, as long as you know the key points for navigating it!

• 🎢 Adventure Land: Amusement rides & indoor arcade

👉 Why VinWonders over Ba Na Hills?

While the famous Ba Na Hills (the theme park with the Golden Bridge) is wonderful, it's geared more towards adults and young people who prioritize "Instagrammable" spots. There are few rides, and you have to walk quite a lot on the mountain, which can be tough for families with small children.

VinWonders, on the other hand, offers a wealth of attractions and pools that keep children entertained, and it's fully equipped with cool indoor facilities! Furthermore, you can experience Vietnamese culture and shows, making it appealing for those who want to feel the "Vietnamese essence."

2. 🎟️ VinWonders Ticket Buying Hacks & Essential Items for Families

① Purchase tickets in advance via Klook or the official website!

It's absolutely recommended to buy tickets in advance through "Klook" or the "VinWonders official website" rather than on-site! You won't have to wait in line at the ticket counter, and payment will be smooth. With children, waiting itself can be stressful, so this alone makes things much easier.

• 💡 Discount Tip: When you open the official website, a pop-up may appear with "currently available coupons." Also, special sales may be held on dates like Vietnam's "August 8th." Be sure to check before purchasing.

② "Buggy-included ticket" is an absolute must for getting around the park!

When purchasing your admission ticket, I strongly recommend choosing the "buggy-included ticket"! The park is incredibly vast, and walking around under Vietnam's strong sun is honestly tough even for adults. With a buggy-included ticket, you get unlimited rides on the buggies that run throughout the park! You can get a special wristband at the counter to the immediate right upon entering.

③ Download the official app in advance

Before your visit, download the official "VinWonders" app to your smartphone! (Available in English) It will be very useful on the day of your visit, as you can check the park map, show times, and a list of rides.

3. 🎒 What to bring for families & real height restrictions

📏 About ride height restrictions

Many rides at VinWonders are accessible to those 100cm and taller, while thrilling rides like roller coasters have a height restriction of 130cm and taller. However, even if your child isn't tall enough, there are plenty of facilities for small children to enjoy, such as the River Safari boat ride, the pool, and the air-conditioned indoor playground, so rest assured!

👜 Packing list for families

• Sunscreen, hat, insect repellent (essential!)
• Water bottle or bottled water (*Bringing food is prohibited, but water was allowed)
• Handheld fan or ice neck ring (makes a big difference for heat relief)
• Swimsuit (if planning to use the pool. Towels are available for rent)
• Comfortable walking shoes (if planning to go to the pool, sandals are also good)

4. 💡 Tips from a Local Mom! How to beat the heat and enjoy with kids

🌅 Enter first thing in the morning! Target the shows

It gets incredibly hot in Vietnam during the day! So, the rule of thumb is to focus your activities on the "morning" and "evening" when children can play energetically. The main and spectacular shows at VinWonders are concentrated in the morning. It's recommended to head straight for the "Bird Show" or "Vietnamese Cultural Show" upon entering the park.

🦁 River Safari is best in the "evening"!

The River Safari, where you can see animals from a boat, is very popular. We took it twice, once in the morning and once in the evening, and the "evening" was definitely better! In the morning and daytime, the animals are often hiding due to the heat, but in the evening, we saw various animals moving actively. (*The last boat departs around 4:30 PM, so check the app to confirm!)

• 💡 Mini-tip: The boarding queues are separated into "Vietnamese" and "English," and foreigners are directed to boats with English announcements. Also, if you buy a VIP ticket at the ticket counter, you can experience feeding the animals!

🍔 For lunch, "Lotteria" or "Korean BBQ" are safe bets

There are several restaurants in the park, but frankly, Vietnamese restaurants often have "so-so taste despite high prices." (Experienced this at other VinWonders facilities 😂) Therefore, for lunch, "Lotteria" or "Korean BBQ" in the park are recommended. Lotteria is reasonably priced, about 2,000 JPY for a family of four, and kids will enjoy it too.

❄️ Escape to the "indoor arcade" during the hottest part of the day!

From 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, the hottest time of the day, it's a great idea to spend time in the huge air-conditioned indoor arcade and playground in Adventure Land! If you've paid the entrance fee, all the games inside are free to play! (※It's a typical Vietnamese charm that some machines are occasionally broken, lol)

There's also a ball pit for smaller children and a 4D theater, so parents can fully recharge here too.

🍦 Snack & light meal situation

There are stands in the park where you can buy ice cream, drinks, and popcorn. While they are theme park prices, ice cream is about 60,000 VND (approx. 360 JPY) and popcorn is about 300 JPY, which isn't exorbitantly expensive.

5. ⏰ Perfect 1-day itinerary for families! Recommended time schedule

I've created a recommended timetable for weekdays! If you follow this schedule, you can conquer all the highlights while avoiding the heat. (※Weekend schedules include additional evening shows)

6. 🚕 Access: How to get to VinWonders Nam Hoi An from Da Nang/Hoi An and points to note

VinWonders Nam Hoi An is located about 1 hour by car from Da Nang city and about 25 minutes from Hoi An Ancient Town area.

The most popular way to get there is by taxi or Grab (ride-hailing app). While getting there is no problem, you need to be careful with [hailing a ride back]!

Near closing time or after dusk, it becomes very difficult to find a Grab in the VinWonders area. Therefore, it is overwhelmingly safer and more recommended to negotiate directly with your incoming Grab driver to "pick you up (or wait for you) in X hours" or arrange a round-trip chartered taxi through your hotel.

In that case, be sure to follow these three points!

• Always FIX the price in advance (to prevent unfair charges later!)
• Check the driver's "rating" on the Grab app
• Take a photo of the car's license plate (for safety and as a deterrent)
