あなたの日常から、ベトナムが広がる。会話を生み出す「ソンベ焼きアクセサリー」

Vietnam expands from your daily life. "Song Be Pottery Accessories" that create conversations

Hello, this is Meg from ít ít Việt Nam.

Today, I'd like to share the story behind our popular "Song Be Pottery Accessories" and the "ít ít" (little bit) of action we put into them.

Transforming 15% "Imperfections" into Treasures

Song Be pottery, which continues to be fired in traditional wood-fired kilns in southern Vietnam, inevitably produces "defective products" with small cracks or chips in 10-15% of the total due to the nature of the open flame firing method.

Until now, these pieces, despite being meticulously hand-painted by artisans, were "discarded" without ever reaching the market.

With the desire to "somehow save this beautiful handiwork," we decided to cut out pieces from the broken pottery, carefully polish them, and transform them into one-of-a-kind accessories.

Overcoming the Barrier of "Weight" and Bringing it into Daily Life

Song Be pottery has a characteristic "heavy weight." These accessories were born to address the concern of "It's beautiful, but it's hard to carry back to Japan..." However, we believe there's another reason why something meant to be worn has special potential.

While plates are enjoyed inside the home, accessories are "something that goes out with you."

A Story Starting with "Where Did You Buy That?"

I imagine a scene where, after you return to Japan, a friend who doesn't know Vietnam asks you, "Where is that beautiful accessory from?" when you're wearing these earrings or necklaces.

"This is traditional Vietnamese pottery, restored like Kintsugi."

From such casual conversations, the charm of Vietnam naturally spreads. Through your daily life, the warmth of Vietnam will create a chain reaction "little by little" (ít ít). We hope to be such a "bridge of culture."

Breathing New Life with the Spirit of "Kintsugi"

Japan has the wonderful culture of "Kintsugi," which beautifully repairs broken pottery. It's a spirit that cherishes imperfections as "history" rather than hiding them.

Our accessory making is precisely aligned with this spirit. Although they may have finished their role as large vessels, by polishing a part of them, we breathe new life into them. Because they have imperfections, they become treasures with unique "stories" that are one of a kind.

Giving Back to the Artists

What we value is not only making our customers happy, but also "protecting the artists who create these pieces."

A portion of the sales from these accessories is returned to the Song Be pottery artists. By giving new value to discarded items and returning the profits, we are building a sustainable relationship that protects traditional kilns.

When you pick up one of these accessories, it's also an action that supports the future of Vietnamese artisans.
